Homemade Olive Oil Hair Conditioner

ing ylang yang essential oil but rosemary, tea tree, lavender or lemongrass essential oils are great alternatives. These essential oils come in many concentrations, so pay attention to the manufacturer’s directions and adjust accordingly. If they are highly concentrated essential oils, 20 drops should be enough, otherwise increase the amount to 30 drops. Use clean and dry utensils and store the final product in a dark, cool cupboard for up to 5 months.

Ingredients

1 cup extra virgin olive oil

1 cup Shea butter

20-30 drops Ylang-ylang essential oil (alternatives: rosemary, tea tree or lavender essential oil)

1 teaspoon vitamin E oil

 

Instructions

Make a double boiler by placing a clean pot or glass, heat proof bowl into a larger pot half filled with hot water, over low to medium heat.

Melt the Shea butter, remove from the heat and pour in the extra virgin olive oil. Mix to combine.

Allow the mixture to reach room temperature and using a blender whisk in the vitamin E oil and the essential oil that you are using. Whisk until you get a light, fluffy frosting consistency.

Transfer into a clean, sealable jar.

Use as a leave-in product by applying a pea-sized amount to dry hair or as a deep conditioner before you wash and shampoo your hair, in which case you apply a generous amount to cover your hair and skull, wrap with a towel and leave for a minimum of 10 minutes. If you got all night turn it into an overnight mask, especially after treating your hair with hair colourings and damaging styling tools to restore their elasticity and boost their strength!
