The only makeup remover you need is in your pantry!

The only makeup remover you need is in your pantry!

Yep, it's olive oil!

Single-ingredient, natural and cruelty-free. The most versatile product in your kitchen, claims a royal spot in your beauty stash. If you are looking for an effective way to demaquillage without using harsh chemicals and expensive products that take up extra space in your beauty bag, look no further.

If you enjoy wearing make-up often, you are familiar with the struggle of trying to take off waterproof mascara, long-lasting eyeliner, liquid lipsticks, and brow fiber products. Not to mention the bio-accumulation of the chemicals that you apply to your skin every day. Certainly not the kind of thing we like to worry about after a long day, right?

Most of us intend to simplify our lives and gradually switch all the products we use to vegan, cruelty-free and sustainable options as we are more aware of the impact we are having on the planet, our bodies and overall health.

Olive oil ticks all the boxes and impresses through simplicity and effectiveness proving that less is more and quality over quantity is not a meaningless millennial Pinterest quote, but a tried and tested real life-changing motto.

Here are some of the reasons why we are so obsessed with using Olive Oil as a makeup remover:

  • Anti-aging properties

Olive oil is gentle on the skin and may help prevent premature signs of aging thanks to its antioxidants.

  • Feel-good Look-Good Vitamins

The big four of the nutritional world A, D, E, and K. The fat-soluble vitamins are beneficial for the skin, rebooting its elasticity and fighting the urban pollution elements that cause a dull, tired complexion.

  • Wallet-Friendly

Offering a good value for money, olive oil is the most affordable of the single-coil options. You get a high-quality product that works wonders at a fraction of what you would have to pay for a synthetic makeup remover product at any beauty counter.

  • Versatility

It's an ingredient that we all have in our pantries and we love utilizing in so many ways! So, you are not getting a product that serves a single purpose and collects dust until the next time you reach for it. It's practically the pride and joy of every true minimalist!

  • Moisturizing effects

Most makeup removers are striping the skin of its oils leaving it sensitive, dry and feeling uncomfortably tight. Olive oil does the exact opposite. It removes all the makeup while deeply moisturizing your skin leaving it super soft and supple.

  • Effectiveness

Stubborn waterproof products have met their match. You will no longer find red lipstick marks on your towel after you wash your face. No mascara stains on your pillows either. Olive oil is extremely effective and will remove every single bit of product with minimum effort!

  • Vegan and Cruelty-Free

No animal products, no unnecessary lab tests, and no dark cloud of worries above your head. It’s an all-natural, cruelty-free, guilt-free option that helps you make the world a better place.

  • Antibacterial Properties

Some studies suggest olive oil helps to remove bacteria from the skin and can be beneficial in the treatment of infections of the skin as well as clearing up acne. There’s a lot of research that still needs to be done in that area but it certainly looks promising!

How to use olive oil as makeup remover

We found that the best way is to upcycle a dark tinted, glass dropper bottle, (how eco-friendly!), fill it with extra virgin olive oil and keep it in your bathroom for easy access. Apply a few drops on your palms, and apply to your face. Alternatively use a cotton pad that is perfect for removing eye makeup. Gently press the pad on your lids for a few seconds and swipe to reveal a beautifully clean skin. Rinse with warm water and soap and dab your face with a clean towel. Proceed with your regular skincare as per usual.

Enjoy the feel-good factors and spread the word! Beauty secrets work better when shared!

Oh yes! No better beauty product than olive oil! I infuse mine with rose petals or add a few drops of lavender or frankincense essential oil to add to the beauty-enhancing qualities of the olive oil I keep in little glass bottles in my bathroom. Pure loveliness!
